The Adirondack Pipes and Drums, Inc. is a New York State Not-for-Profit 501(c)(3) Corporation, whose purposes are:

  • To provide education and promote cultural awareness of the traditions and music of the Scottish Great Highland Bagpipe and Drum;
  • To maintain a band for public performances and for those who wish to compete;
  • To facilitate instruction in Highland Bagpipes and/or Drums.

The band plays in parades, Scottish festivals and games, and other special events. The band was formed in September of 1949 in Fort Edward, N.Y. to promote and preserve Scottish music and traditions in the region and to pay tribute to the Highland Regiments that served in the area during the French and Indian Wars. In 1950, the band adopted the traditional tartan of the Black Watch with pipers wearing the Royal Stewart tartan and drummers the darker Black Watch tartan. In 2007 the band incorporated as a New York State non-profit. The band is a member of the Eastern United States Bagpipe Association and a member of the Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council.
